FAQ

Common questions

What price is used as the reference for XAU/USD on this site?

The reference price shown is about 4275.0, and it is a snapshot for calculation, not a live quote you can trade on. Your broker's XAU/USD price will sit around it but will not match it exactly. Use your platform's bid and ask for order decisions and the reference only for working through the calculators.

What actually moves the gold price during a Nigerian trading day?

Gold responds to the US dollar, real interest rate expectations, central bank buying and demand for safe assets when markets are stressed. Because XAU/USD is quoted in dollars, naira strength or weakness does not change the metal's price but does change what your profit is worth when converted. News releases can move price sharply.

Why does gold trade in dollars when I am funding in naira?

XAU/USD is priced in US dollars per ounce globally, so your profit and loss are calculated in dollars and then converted by your broker into the account currency. That conversion is a second exposure on top of the gold move. If the naira moves against the dollar while your trade is open, your naira result changes even if gold is flat.

Is one standard lot of gold the same as buying 100 ounces?

Yes, one standard lot of XAU/USD is 100 ounces, so a 0.10-lot position is 10 ounces and a 0.01-lot position is 1 ounce. That is why gold positions feel large: a one-dollar move in the gold price is $100 on a full lot. Size down with the position size calculator until the risk fits your account.

Does the SEC Nigeria regulate the gold market I am trading?

The SEC Nigeria is the local authority for capital market operators, and you should confirm any broker on its register before funding an account. It does not set the global gold price, which is driven by international markets. FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA; confirm any broker on the SEC Nigeria register of capital market operators.
